53/365 Where does your food come from?

I have decided to be a born again vegetarian.  Being a vegetarian is something that I chose to do a long time ago and I was very strict!  I lasted almost 8 months and then because of my work schedule I never took a lunch break and just ate in my car on the way to my next destination so it made it really hard to pack an on the go meal without meat.  When I moved to LA I wasn't an "official" vegetarian but I rarely ate meat.  Now after my sister in law introduced me to the documentary Food Inc. and a couple others I have decided to go back full force with being a vegetarian.  This is not necessarily a protest for animal rights specifically.  It is more of a protest against the entire oligopoly that has become our food industry.  INCLUDING the produce section.  If I knew that the animals being slaughtered for food weren't given hormones, antibiotics, were grass fed (not corn fed), and we able to live in a pasture outside of mud and their own feces I would have no problem eating meat.  After watching food inc. the thought of eating meat repulses me.  Most recently I had stopped eating red meat and only ate turkey, the other morning Andrew was making turkey bacon and the smell sparked images from Food Inc. to resurface and I couldn't be near the smell without gagging.  I am protesting grocery produce as well since some vegetable are genetically enhanced and we aren't even being informed which are and which aren't.  Ask yourself, when a vegetable isn't in season in our area, how is it still being sold in the grocery store?  Where did it come from?  By beginning my own garden and only buying from local farmers markets that sell organic veggies and fruits I am much more aware of the food going in to my body.  It is going to be tough but I think I can do it!

Here are some websites to help inform you about the food you are eating!  There are a ton more sites, just google some of the topics and I bet you can find so much more information.  I challenge you to take a look at what you are eating.  You probably wont be very happy...
